Help Isom IGA recover from devasting floods
The Retail Learning Institute’s latest course addresses an important topic in the workplace—violence prevention. “Workplace Violence Prevention – Supervisors,” accessible via RLI's website, provides information on how to identify and respond to potentially harmful situations. With clear prevention strategies and response plans, this course provides essential guidance to resolve a critical issue.
Course Description: In this course, you'll learn why preventing workplace violence matters. Imagine this: two coworkers get into a confrontation, and you witness it. How would you handle it? Do your team members know how to respond? Workplace violence plans can offer guidance for these situations and help equip your crew with tactics that may prevent them. We'll cover strategies to help reduce workplace violence and prepare for emergencies. Thank you to Acuity for collaborating on this project, and to Aaron Stamm for providing the voiceover.
This course begins by defining workplace violence: any act of threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or disruptive behavior within a work environment. This issue is complex, as it can pose significant risks to the safety and security of employees, customers, and visitors. Moreover, there are various forms of workplace violence, from actions that have the potential for immediate physical harm to threats that change organizational dynamics.
To prevent workplace violence, this course emphasizes the importance of understanding underlying causes and triggers. Next, the course focuses on having effective proactive strategies in place. Real life examples illustrate several possible scenarios where workplace violence can occur. Then, preventative behaviors are outlined that can maintain a safe and productive environment.
Finally, this course walks retailers through the process of creating a workplace violence plan. This plan has the goal of preventing and addressing situations where individuals may be at risk of harm or feel threatened at work, providing clear guidance on emergency response. Emergency Action Plans with guidelines from OSHA are also discussed, and links to further information are provided within the course.
After developing a plan, this course explains how to implement it, noting employee comprehension and engagement are essential. A discussion of specific techniques and strategies makes it clear how retailers can implement these strategies into their own operations.
Build a culture of safety and respect and ensure that you’re ready to respond to potentially threatening situations by planning ahead with RLI’s guidance.
