IGA HONORS WORLD ANNIVERSARY SALE PARTICIPANTSThree Countries are Presented Pioneer Awards CHICAGO, IL – IGA honored the participants of its first ever global sales event, the World Anniversary Sale, with the inception of a new award. The Pioneer Awards were presented to representatives from Australia , Singapore and Indonesia March 11th at IGA's 2003 Global Summit in Palm Springs , Calif. The IGA World Anniversary Sale ran in Australia, Indonesia and Singapore during the weeks of September 19 - October 20, 2002 . Each of the three countries chose its promotional period in two week increments within the allotted time window. Red Oval Family Partners, including Coca Cola, Campbell's, Kraft, Nestle and Smucker's, will identified three products for each country, two of which were chosen for participation. The theme of the World Anniversary Sale - Hometown Proud Families around the world- was chosen because of its universal appeal, said Dr. Thomas Haggai, president and CEO of lGA. "For a multi-culture promotion to be successful we had to chose a theme that would appeal to the people of any country," he said. "There's no more powerful common thread than the universal importance of family." "This promotion generated sales for our stores and excitement for the consumer," said Paulo Goelzer, president, IGA Institute. "It was a benefit not just for IGA Retailers, but also for manufacturers." Andrew Reitzer and Lou Jardin, IGA Distribution, Australia; Tan Kian Chew and Gerry Lee Kian Hup, NTUC Fairprice, Singapore; and James Riady and Alan Stewart, PT Matahari, Indonesia, represented by Dr. Chen Wen Cheng, were each rewarded for their parts in working together to bring about this first world sales event.
