IGA HOMETOWN PROUD KIDS BECOME STARS AT SPACE CAMP
IGA Space Camp Scholarship Winners to be Extras
on Nickelodeon’s 'The Nick Cannon Show'
Chicago, IL – IGA announced today that its
70 Space Camp Scholarship winners will appear as extras on Nickelodeon’s
The Nick Cannon Show on Saturday, November 16th, at 8:30 EST. The
filming for the episode took place during the kids’ week-long
trip to Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala., this August.
IGA’s scholarship winners will appear at various points throughout
the highly-rated half hour show in which Cannon, the show’s
young host, “takes over” Space Camp. In the closing scene,
several IGA scholarship winners will appear in alien costumes.
“All the kids were extremely excited that the show was being
filmed while they were at Space Camp,” IGA Promotions Manager
Zorona Chapman said. “The timing worked out fabulously for us.
It’s not often that we get to see our Hometown Kids on national
television.”
IGA and participating IGA retailers purchased a total of 87 trips
to Space Camp as part of IGA’s Explore the Store Space Camp
Scholarship Program. The trips were then awarded to kids between the
ages of 9 and 12 based on their answers to the essay question, “How
could space exploration help your hometown?” Seventy of the
scholarship winners attended the week-long session in Huntsville.
In addition to participating in the filming of the Nickelodeon show,
while there the kids engaged in activities that would prepare them
for two simulated shuttle flights at the end of the week.
“We’re delighted that we were able to give these kids
the opportunity to learn about space and space exploration,”
said Dr. Thomas Haggai chairman and CEO of IGA. “The fact that
they will be appearing in a popular children’s television show
sweetens the experience for us all.”
