IGA's 11th annual IGA KidsFest runs July 18 – August 14, 2010. Look to this column to learn first-hand how IGA Retailers are planning to celebrate KidsFest. Today, Nathan Tucker, store director of Evergreen Market IGA shares his plans for a community-focused KidsFest event this year.
Last year for our first-ever KidsFest we held a small but very successful carnival in our parking lot. This year we decided we would take it up a notch by turning our entire east parking lot into a carnival, complete with a bounce house, professional carnival games, an old fashioned popcorn cart and a cotton candy maker, face painting, a cake walk, and much more. Also new for this year, we're working to get our whole community more involved.
We are asking everyone from our fire and police departments to local businesses and groups to participate in KidsFest by "hosting" different parts of the carnival. We've had a great response—a dentist, a teacher, animal shelter employees and the local high school's cheerleading team are just a few of the community members who have agreed to "host" games and events and give out prizes. Our thinking is that their participation will give the event a more community-focused feel. Add to that the prizes and samples we've received from our vendors, and the Monster Mural we got from IGA for turning our Event Planner in early, and we're sure to have plenty of fun things for our kids and community on the day of our event.
We have been advertising our event in the newspaper, at our checkout stands and on our Facebook page, and the buzz has been growing with every week. It's sure to be a great event, and by bringing the whole community together, we'll definitely be feeling Hometown Proud!
