Stodola's IGA Celebrates Dog Days of Summer with KidsFest

IGA's 11th annual IGA KidsFest runs July 18 - August 14, 2010. Today, Kate and Alex Stodola, managers of Stodola's IGA, share how they are working with a local animal shelter to raise money and awareness for homeless pets during their KidsFest event.

For some time now, Stodola's IGA has been doing our part to support a local animal shelter that is new to our community by keeping a donation box for the shelter in our store. It's been a very rewarding relationship, and we've often talked about finding other ways to help. When it came time to plan our KidsFest event for 2010, we knew that this would be the perfect time to take the next step.

We worked with the shelter to develop a "pet-friendly" KidsFest event that will feature a pet adoption booth run by shelter staff. For the kids, we will be doing animal-themed face painting and we will be proudly featuring our Monster Mural poster for all of them to decorate. We will also have a cook out, and all proceeds earned from it will be donated to the shelter.

We are so excited for our event, and we have begun publicizing it to our community in the past week with newspaper advertisements, in-store signage, and bag stuffers. This KidsFest program is just another way that we can really come together and contribute to our community—even the four-legged members!
